The Innovation Policy Group (IPG) began its work at the JIIS in 1984, in an effort to conceptualize and identify appropriate public policies for generating high levels of industrial/technological growth.

The Innovation Policy Desk has many ongoing projects in progress, including the TARGET project examining different models of managing processes for focusing innovation policy.

Future Challenges
The Innovation Policy Desk faces many ongoing challenges. Some involve building up a body of knowledge on managing long-term thinking processes with respect to government investments, while others are concerning expanding the evaluation activity of governmental programs for encouraging innovation, including the MAGNET program and programs for direct support of R&D.
